Malta is set to triple its nightly eco-contribution for tourists from €0.50 to €1.50 per person. This is the first increase since the tax was introduced in 2016, when it was capped at €5 per stay and expected to raise about €6 million a year.  With tourism now at record levels, government says the higher fee will fund infrastructure and environmental improvements in tourism hotspots. Is this too much? Or perhaps too little?
